During December and January, the weather in Mexico tends to cool down quite a bit.  This means you should consider at least taking a sweater on your trip.  There are a host of festivals that take place during December, which makes it an exciting time to visit the country.

This time of year falls into the high season at many tourist destinations, so it is advisable to book well in advance.

National Silver Fair, Taxco, Guerrero

This festival sees top silversmiths, artists and craftspeople compete against each other for prizes.  It includes fireworks, dances and concerts, and if you like silver items, you will be able to find a range of goods.  The dates for the 2014 festival have not yet been announced.

International Book Fair, Guadalajara, Jalisco from November 29 to December 7

This is the biggest Spanish book festival held globally.  It is celebrating its 28th year of production and the guest country being honored this year is Israel.  More than 1500 editorial and publishing houses across 39 countries gather for this annual event.

Sunset Boat Parade, Cancun, Quintana Roo on December 1

Cancun’s holiday season commences with a parade of yachts and boats on the Nichupte Lagoon.  All the vessels are decorated with Christmas lights and other festive decorations.

Feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico City on December 12

Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patron saint of Mexico and the feast day is celebrated throughout the country, but particularly in Mexico City on December 12.  The feast day commemorates the traditional stories about her first sightings during 1531, on the Hill of Tepeyac, which is located close to Mexico City.  The main festivities occur in Mexico City and thousands of pilgrims visit the Basilica de Guadalupe to pay homage to their patron saint.  The square located in front of the Basilica becomes a stage for celebration, dancing and singing.

There are street processions every night from December 16 to December 24.  These processions result in house parties, called Posadas, and is a celebration of the journey to Bethlehem undertaken by Mary and Joseph.

There are several other events that take place during December, in different parts of the country.  It is an exciting time to be in Mexico because Christmas is a religious time and traditions are maintained.  If you would like to be part of this special time of year, you should ensure that you plan your trip in advance and ensure that you have all the required documents.  If you intend driving to Mexico for this special time of year, you should ensure that you purchase Mexican car insurance before you leave home.  If you forget to do so before you set off on your trip, you have the opportunity to buy it at the border, but it will probably cost you much more than purchasing online. You can purchase your Mexican insurance policy form this link.

It is easier to buy it online and you have the chance to compare costs and what the different providers offer you for your money.  Once you have purchased your policy, you should print a couple of copies or email it to yourself so that you have it available if you are asked to produce proof of Mexican vehicle insurance.

If the road is foggy with a little snow, it’s difficult to drive safely. While a very small amount of Mexico has great snow to enjoy, safe driving is not guaranteed. So I took all precautions I need from Mexican Insurance Store.

It’s simple. US coverage is invalid. You will be held until you pay the bill if you cause an accident and have no policy. Simple.

It’s certainly good if you have Mexican insurance. But filing a claim without the complete documents may not be easy.
